These early Qing Dynasty official’s hat armchairs are from Shanxi, China and date to the early 1900s. Though made during the Qing Dynasty (1644 – 1912), the design of the chairs is from the Ming Dynasty (1368 -1644). The chairs are made from a premium softwood (Yang Mu), not an exotic hardwood (such as Huang Huali). As such, they are fine specimens in a very good state of preservation. They are virtually all-original with no added parts, no new finish and only minimal repairs. The oxblood lacquer finish is gently worn in an appropriate way and the original antique patina is lovely.
